The Beautiful Sacrifice.

Assalamualaykum wr wbt.

She sat by the bank looking at the soft blue skies. Both her feet in the cold clear water. Watching the dragon lizard swiftly passing her. And listening to her all-time favourite cricket sounds. She closed hr eyes for 5 seconds, listening to the splash and flow of the rivers accompanied by the rustle of the leaves. Tiny winds, yet enough to cool the saddened heart. She opened her eyes and slowly went into the water until it reached her waistline and she dived her whole body into the river. She stayed still. Thinking. She swam onto the surface and took a huge gasp of air. A few seconds passed, she dived herself in a again. Some of the water started to fill in her ears, she just ignored. She swam again until a hand pulled her life jacket. There was continuous chuckles and Sakeenah smiled at them, who were on the boat, munching away some of the Tuna sandwiches they packed this morning. As she jumped into the boat, half wet in the middle of the scorching sun, she looked back, looking at the thick rainforest. The different shades of malachite filled the horizons of the eyes. SubhanAllah, indeed one of the most breath taking views she has ever witnessed. At this, her thoughts ran into the wildest imagination how paradise could be… when the Prophet s.a.w said in a hadeeth,

Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said that Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: I have prepared for My pious servants which the eye has seen not, and the ear has heard not and no human heart has ever perceived such bounties leaving aside those about which Allah has informed you. He then recited:” No soul knows what comfort has been hidden for thein”.

As she was patiently observing the view, and as the got further and further, there was a huge splash on her and she looked as the other boat was splashing water into her boat.

“No!” Sakeenah smiled looking at Asma’ who was laughing  as she paddled slowly past her.

“Thinking!” Asma’ splashed more water into her boat, to avoid the boat bursting because of overheating.

“I’ve something for you to think about then.” Asma’ rowed closer to Sakeenah whilst they watch Fatima paddling at the front with other girls.

“Tell me, please. How much have you sacrificed for Allah s.w.t? ” Asma’ asked. At that second, her eyes became red. Sakeenah kept silent. This quiet sahabat of hers always shoot brain-juggling questions which never left her feeling at ease. Sakeenah paddled more and closer to Asma looking at her. Trying to get her shoulder.

“You okay?”

“Yea.. yeah.” her tears were already streaming. She said yes in the middle of her tears and she kept paddling the boat whilst Sakeenah followed her at the back, mind drowned in 1001 stories. Of all the things cluttered and clustered in her mind, she knew for one thing she endlessly asked Allah for Asma’. For Allah azza wa jalla never burdens a soul more than it can be bear. She was one of the most active sisters she has known in her life. She memorized the Quran and pledged that there is nothing in this world which could replace her huge love for Quran. Not even anyone subhanAllah. She was one of the most fluent non-Arabic speaker who knows Arabic very well and her small openings when they open their gatherings with Quran, just blows the heart away. So far. She herself mashAllah is inspiring, and she endlessly inspire others subhanAllah. After 5 years of marriage, she waited patiently for their first child, after two months, Allah azza wa jalla Tested her with unability for the foetus to live, and resulted in D&C at 3 months. And that was 2 years ago. Last 4 months, Asma had to undergo the third D&C and as strong as she may seems, her personality changed slightly. From the cheerful girl always buzzing around others, she preferred to be more preserved. And being able to drag her out of her hectic life to go on a 3 day vacation with the girls, Sakeenah felt very grateful to Allah azza wa jalla as it was a huge mission accomplished alhamdulillah.

Reported by Anas (RA):

A man asked The Prophet (peace be upon him) about the Hour (i.e. Day of Judgment) saying, “When will the Hour be?” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “What have you prepared for it?”

The man said, “Nothing, except that I love Allah and His Apostle.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “You will be with those whom you love.” We had never been so glad as we were on hearing that saying of The Prophet (peace be upon him) (i.e., “You will be with those whom you love.”) Therefore, I love The Prophet (peace be upon him), Abu Bakr and ‘Umar, and I hope that I will be with them because of my love for them though my deeds are not similar to theirs.”

A question which the Prophet s.a.w replied with a question. What have the man prepared for the day of Judgement. SubhanAllah. Simple answer/ question. But really means a lot.

What have you sacrificed for Allah?

A huge question which echoes the question back to Sakeenah. What have I sacrificed for Alah azza wa jalla. For the quarter of century lived, and unsure of the ability to live in the next second. That question kept ringing. And Sakeenah stayed silent thinking. What has she sacrificed by Allah azza wa jalla.

And recite to them the story of Adam’s two sons, in truth, when they both offered a sacrifice [to Allah ], and it was accepted from one of them but was not accepted from the other. Said [the latter], “I will surely kill you.” Said [the former], “Indeed, Allah only accepts from the righteous [who fear Him].

[Al Quran, Surah Al Maidah : 27]

‘Innama wataqabbaluAllahu minal muttaqqeen’. SubhanAllah. Only from the righteous. And the sacrifice here is referred to the word qaraba- which harfiah it means, close to Allah azza wa jalla. Thus this sacrifice refers to anything which is made and brings us closer to Allah azza wa jalla.

Beautiful Sacrifice

When discussing about sacrifices, we can always relate with the story of the beloved Prophet a.s which was mentioned from his a.s. time until us today, where we mentioned about him in our prayers subhanAllah. The honour Allah azza wa jalla Gave upon this Prophet a.s. is untill the day of judgement, and we wonder why. This prophet is Prophet Ibrahim a.s. and what he has sacrificed, have been told to us in Quran, and indeed his sacrifices are beautiful sacrifice and this was when he was a young boy when his father rejected for the tauhid he had faith in, the test when he was burnt alive, the test when he had to live his wife, Siti Hajar and Ismail a.s. in the midst of the desert, and the test when he a.s. was told by Allah azza wa jalla to slaughter his own son, who he didn’t have time to shower his love to. Allahuakbar. Even if Prophet Ibrahim a.s.’s sacrifice was divided into 1,000000 we are still not sure if we would be able to have such patience to sacrifice. SubhanAllah. In Surah Saffat, ayah 101-110, Allah Tells us about the sacrifice which Prophet Ibrahim a.s. and Prophet Ismail a.s. made.

So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy.

And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, “O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think.” He said, “O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the steadfast.”

And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead,

We called to him, “O Abraham,

You have fulfilled the vision.” Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

Indeed, this was the clear trial.

And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice,

And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:

“Peace upon Abraham.”

Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

[Al Quran Surah As Saffat : 101-110]

This tells us about one of the most beautiful sacrifices made just for the sake of attaining Allah’s Redha (Mercy) and nothing less. At the end of the day, we ask ourselves, what exactly entails in a beautiful sacrifice? In the story mentioned above, and by mufaseers, this sacrifice involves sacrificing a valuable component of our lives. Surely, without a doubt, parents feel that their children are the most valuable thing they ever ‘possess’ but, because of what Allah azza wa jall Has Ordained and His Love preceeds anything else (every little atom in this world), and by proving that this love and gaining His Mercy is true, Prophet Ibrahim a.s. was ready, to sacrifice anything, which includes his own precious son. The beautiful patience secondly involves an amazingly high level of tawakkul which is putting everything really solely in Allah’s hands after a work done for His Sake inshAllah.

Why is it important, or what is the key for us to know about Qurban, or sacrifice made by Prophets (may Allah be pleased and have Mercy Upon them) and the companions (r.a) in the days before? This proves that the highest level of love (mahabbatul ulya) which is Love to Allah azza wa jalla, is much more higher than mahabbatul adna which is a lower level of love, that is love to wealth, children and the components of the temporary dunya. SubhanAllah. And in attaining this level, or proof of love, utmost certainly it comes with action, and not only words. And how do we know that Allah azza wa jalla Accepts the sacrifice of His slaves? The main criteria is simple to say, but difficult in the means – by having taqwa as mentioned in Surah Al Maidah above. The difference between the acceptance of sacrifice made by Qabil and Habil is by having taqwa.

Also mentioned in Surah Al Hajj, verse 37 – the key is taqwa which is piety which stands out in the eyes of Allah azza wa jalla.

Their meat will not reach Allah , nor will their blood, but what reaches Him is piety from you. Thus have We subjected them to you that you may glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and give good tidings to the doers of good.

[Al Quran , Surah Al Hajj : 37]

Thus, a question I ask myself first and foremost, before I ask anyone else. If Prophet Ibrahim a.s. was ready to sacrifice his Ismail, then what of our ‘Ismail’ are we ready to sacrifice. Has the eeman attain that level, ready to prove our love straight away, without a doubt, and only by hoping to gain Allah’s Mercy? SubhanAllah, something really to think about, and act on insh’Allah.

600 year old mosque, was masjeed-travelling and I heard one of the nicest recitations. A recitation from the heart subhanAllah.

Jazakunna Allahu Khayr

Looking around me, there is so many people whom Allah azza wa jalla Sent, to bring me closer to Him. To remind me in times I forget and to ‘shoot’ me in times I needed it most.

To my dearest Mom who always wake me up for fajr from the day I can know fajr and till now alhamdulillah. And always asking Allah azza wa jalla to grant me the best in every duaas when she remembers. To my dearest Dad who consistently loves and supports me in times of lows and highs. To my dearest To my dearest sahabats who have done endlessly, to her who is now in prison and consistently remembered for every of our memory together brings sakeenah in the hearts Alhamdulillah. To the sahabat who have endured all the roughs and toughs of me 🙂 all this while yet still love me for Allah’s Sake, ready to help before asked. To the sahabat who truly motivated me to love Quran, learn more of it and to act upon it. Alhamdulillah. To the sahabat who always reminds me about death, my all-time favourite topic. To the sahabat who tells me about my lacks and wants me to improve because they want me to enter Jannah with them. To them who always make duaa for me, precious duaas, and I ask Allah to Grant antum wa antunna much much more biidhnillah.

In midst of an interesting journey of learning alhamdulillah. SubhanAllah, Allahuakbar, may Allah Ease. And inshAllah biidhnillah will kick of work soon, and blogposts on medicine (aiyoo) and on a stressful old grandmother hee 🙂 I wonder who is reading this from US and Netherlands, been getting quite a number of views from there but whoever is reading, I ask Allah azza wa jalla to grant you benefit inshAllah for Him, even if it’s an atom.
